Additional Info:

The 40008‑05P Cogent Bidentate C8™ HPLC Column is a short‑length analytical reversed‑phase column designed for fast separations, good resolution, and high‑throughput screening. Manufactured using Cogent TYPE‑C™ silica hydride technology, this column delivers excellent selectivity, rapid equilibration, and exceptionally long column lifetime compared with conventional silica‑based C8 columns.

The stationary phase consists of an aliphatic C8 hydrocarbon chain bonded via two direct silicon–carbon bonds (bidentate attachment) to a silica hydride surface. This non‑traditional chemistry produces a phase that is more hydrophobic than standard C8 columns, yet less hydrophobic than Bidentate C18™, making it ideal when C18 retention is excessive but stronger retention than conventional C8 is still required.

Unlike traditional C8 phases, the Bidentate C8™ can retain certain hydrophilic compounds if desired and is stable at very low pH (below pH 2) without deterioration—greatly expanding the method‑development window.

The 4.6 mm ID × 50 mm length format provides short run times, good efficiency, and robustness, making this column a very popular choice for high‑throughput analytical workflows.

Why Choose Bidentate C8™ Instead of Conventional C8 or C18

The Bidentate C8™ offers a unique middle ground between traditional C8 and C18 phases:

  • Greater hydrophobicity than conventional C8 → improved retention

  • Less hydrophobic than C18 → shorter run times

  • Direct Si–C bonding → superior chemical stability

  • Reduced silanol activity → cleaner peak shapes

  • Stable under 100 % aqueous mobile phases

  • Tolerates very low pH (below 2) without damage

This makes it ideal for analysts who need controlled retention with speed and robustness.
